About Us
Marysa and Ebrima’s story began in 2016 during a trip to The Gambia, where a shared passion for horses brought them together. Ebrima, originally from the coastal area of Kotu, had spent years managing a seaside stable. It was there, through Barry’s Tours, that Marysa experienced herfirst horseback ride on the beach—a moment that would leave a lasting impression.
Her ride was on Ebrima’s horse, Lightening, famously known as “the fastest horse on the beach.” What struck Marysa most was the profound connection Ebrima shared with his horse. Even with Marysa in the saddle, Lightening responded intuitively to Ebrima. As they galloped along the shore, the exhilarating speed felt otherworldly. Yet, with a single, long, slow whistle from Ebrima riding behind them, Lightening would automatically slow down, as if easing off the accelerator of a car. Lightening was truly exceptional, and it was through this shared experience that Marysa and Ebrima stayed in touch after she returned to the UK.
Tragically, about a year later, Lightening passed away from Trypanosomosis (“Sleeping Sickness”). Ebrima lost not only his best friend but also his livelihood. Determined to help, Marysa and a network of friends launched a GoFundMe campaign, successfully raising enough money for Ebrima to purchase a new horse.
In 2018, seeking advice from a close Gambian family friend on where tofindthe right horse, they visited the weekly‘Lumo’market in Ndungu Kebbe. This vibrant market, where locals from outlying villages gather to trade everything from livestock and fabrics to groceries and household essentials, was a magical experience for them both.
Soon after, they learned of some land for sale in the area. Although purchasing land wasn’t part of the original plan, Marysa decided to take a look, figuring “it costs nothing to look.” She immediately fell in love with a plot on the edge of town, surrounded by open fields and mango trees, offering stunning sunset views.
By 2024, they had begun building on the land. Today, it has blossomed into a beautiful retreat featuring lush gardens, a bungalow, stables, store rooms, tents, and comfortable living quarters. Both Marysa and Ebrima share a deep love for animals, and their home reflects this passion.
Visitors willfindthemselves fully immersed in the daily rhythms of animal care—whether it’s scattering maize for the chickens, turkeys, and guinea fowl, taking the goats out to pasture, or feeding the horses, Marysa and Cappuccino. Guests can also look forward to spending time with Petra the donkey, and socializing with the resident sheep: Badge, Verane, and her baby. Their journey, born from a single ride on a remarkable horse, has grown into a shared life dedicated to nature, animals, and the vibrant community of Ndungu Kebbe.
At the heart of their journey is a deep commitment to shared values. Marysa and Ebrima believe in sustainability, ensuring that their work respects and nurtures the environment. They are dedicated to providing employment opportunities that uplift the local community. Above all, their love for nature and horses shines through everything they do, creating a welcoming space where the joy of togetherness can be shared with all who visit.
